Tukaram Bhagoji Gaykar of Pachghar has 18 acres of horticulture land. Out of this, he cultivates tomatoes on 12 acres of land with the help of his son Ishwar Gaykar and daughter-in-law Sonali. Today his horticulture land is spewing gold. Gaikar’s Tomatoes has given employment to over 100 women in the area. His daughter-in-law Sonali Gaikar manages the tomato garden tillage, harvesting, crate filling, spraying etc., while son Ishwar Gaikar is doing sales management and financial planning. Guyker has won the tomato crop lottery this year. He has earned over Rs 1.25 crore from the sale of 13,000 tomato crates since last month. On Friday, the Gaykar family got a price of Rs 2100 (20 kg crate) for a crate of tomatoes. Gaiker sold a total of 900 crates of tomatoes. He got Rs 18 lakh in a single day. Last month, they got Rs 1000 to 2400 per crate depending on the grade. There are 10 to 12 farmers in a taluk like Gaikar who have become millionaires by selling tomatoes. Whereas, the market committee has done a business of 80 crores in a month.

On Friday, the highest price of a crate (20 kg) of good quality tomato was Rs 2500 i.e. Rs 125 per kg in Narayangaon sub-market of Junnar Agricultural Produce Market Committee. Due to the increase in the price of tomatoes in the market, the producers have become millionaires. This is the first time in history that such a price is being received, so the farmers are happy. Farming is generally considered a loss-making deal; If the crop is good, then due to the low price, it becomes necessary to throw it on the road. But farmer Tukaram Gaikar of Pachghar village cultivated tomatoes in such a way that these red tomatoes made him rich.
